“You see how this looks, right?”
A nightmare journey back to the dark days of the early 00s, Primetime stars Robert Pattinson as journalist Chris Hansen- host of a wildly popular segment on Dateline NBC titled To Catch a Predator, using "decoys" to lure in would-be child predators and ambushing them on camera. Despite the increasing psychological damage to decoys like aspiring actor Dan Plum (Skyler Gisondo), the lust for fame and his disintegrating personal life drives Hansen to unfathomable depths in the search for primetime ratings success.
“Pattinson twists, bends and crumples in Hansen’s skin”
“Leaves its audience simultaneously appalled and thrilled”
“A film that gets under your skin and stays there”
The debut narrative feature from documentarian Lance Oppenheim (Some Kind of Heaven), Primetime is less interested in context and legacy than blending heightened reality and dubious moral justification to form the impressionistic journey of an enigmatic man eagerly selling his soul for paltry rewards. Part carnival barker, part vigilante and wholly American, Pattinson as Hansen is one of his finest performances to date.
