SHOWING EXCLUSIVELY AT GOLDEN AGE IN SYDNEY
Director Mark Jenkin (Bait) delivers a haunting nautical time-warping mystery set on the wild Cornish coast with Rose of Nevada. Fishermen Nick (George MacKay) and Liam (Callum Turner) join the crew of the titular ship, recently relaunched after a mysterious disappearance. When they return from their voyage however, the crew of the Rose find themselves some thirty years in the past- a time when the village was thriving and people seem to know them, but not as they are.
“Haunting, bittersweet, and a little scary”
“Something ancient, meaningful and quite magical”
“Satisfyingly baffling”
Multi-talented writer/director/editor/composer Jenkin has created a compelling world of saltswept decay in Rose of Nevada, a unique take on classically British folk horror mythos playing exclusively at Golden Age. The choice to film on a 16mm Bolex, motivated not just by nostalgic yearning for film but as a tool—combined with fractured editing and looping sound design—enhances the uncanny nature of a truly weird tale.
