Overview

The close of the Maiku Hama trilogy features Masatoshi Nagase (Mystery Train, The Box Man) in an unforgettable double role. This are looking up for our private investigator Maiku Hama: business is booming, the city loves him, his sister is finally going to college, and he's even fallen in love. Amidst a string of serial killings, a hooded stranger appears in Hama's office with the cryptic challenge: "I want you to look for me”. Soon enough Yokohama’s baffled police mark our noble detective as prime suspect for the killings – somehow his fingerprints are in places they shouldn’t be.

We’re pleased to present the Australian premiere of the new 4K restoration of The Trap.

Why See This Film

Easily the darkest of the trio, The Trap sees Kaizo Hayashi placing his beloved ensemble we’ve grown to love over The Most Terrible Time in my Life and The Stairway to the Distant Past into a twisted Giallo-like masked killer plot while upping the Seijun Suzuki-inspired colour and surrealism to staggering heights. While this eerie conclusion sees our hero and his friends facing their greatest challenges, it also conducts a disturbing study of another character, also embodied by Masatoshi Nagase, and plunges into the darkness of the mind.
