Overview
Iranian-born filmmaker in exile Abdolreza Kahani achieves a potent blend of humour and pathos in Mortician. Mojtaba (Nima Sadrzadeh, A Shrine) is a taciturn Tehranian ex-pat in Canada, eking out a living as an itinerant carrying out the Islamic tradition of washing corpses awaiting burial, and sending money home to his family. This all changes when the mysterious exiled Jana (pop singer Gola) makes him a dangerous offer: for a large sum of cash, Mojtaba must help film the videos she will make in the leadup to her suicide-as-public-protest, and afterwards prepare her body.
