Follow Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise's maiden voyage in the role) on the mission that set him on his increasingly outrageous world adventures. Taught, clever and sometimes very funny, Mission: Impossible is a masterclass in how to make an action movie. Here we see De Palma playing his with favourite toys—duplicity, betrayal and a big box of disguises—under the cover of exquisitely executed set-pieces. Alongside the iconic vault heist's minimalist ballet (and an all-out finale) is the fishtank explosion that gave Mr Movies his taste for death-defying stunt work, going from nervously asking if this was dangerous to freehand climbing the Burj Khalifa.
