Constructed solely with archival footage, Do You Love Me is a thrilling and powerful journey through modern Lebanese history. Assembling home movies, stills, podcasts and radio, this film channels a Beirut that is so much more than the site of tragedy and political unrest: a vibrant city that has been buffeted by the changing winds of the 20th Century and remained a place where people sing, dance and live.
“A delicately wrought and tonally complex airing of shared traumas that also breathes with a sense of community”
On learning that Lebanon had no national archive, filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist Lana Daher set out to create a film that captures the spirit of a people, drawing from over 20,000 hours of footage. Do You Love Me is an exuberant piece of history rendered personal and playful, an honest attempt to capture the chaos and beauty of an ancient and contemporary country.
