Angel's Egg

(PG)

40TH ANNIVERSARY | NEW 4K RESTORATION

Overview

Celebrating its 40th anniversary with a stunning new 4K restoration, Angel’s Egg is a hauntingly beautiful and quietly mournful march through the ruins of an old world from director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) and concept and art director Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy). A young girl scavenges a desolate city, protecting a large egg which she believes will hatch into an angel. When she crosses paths with a boy carrying a cross-shaped weapon who wishes to see inside the egg, the two set out on an uneasy journey across the strange wastes.

Why You Should See This Film

A eerie meditation on astounding hand drawn illustrations, enigmatic Biblical symbolism and apocalyptic allegories, Angel’s Egg is an extraordinary piece of poetic animated cinema that has been terribly hard to find since its initial direct to video release. A decade before Ghost in the Shell, Mamoru Oshii completed this cryptic OVA only to find himself out of work for three years. And yet, despite its obscurity and puzzling nature, Angel’s Egg has deservedly garnered a reverent cult following – we’re very pleased to finally show this tremendous work on the Golden Screen.
