Introduced by Seiji (Guitar Wolf himself)
To coincide with their 2026 world tour, legendary Japanese punk garage trio Guitar Wolf will introduce the cult horror classic Wild Zero. Young greaser and wannabe rock star Ace (Masashi Endō) is a fan of the band (Guitar Wolf, Bass Wolf and Drum Wolf playing themselves) who gets the chance to assist his heroes, and is rewarded with a one-time offer of help anywhere. That time comes sooner than expected when Ace inadvertently foils a petrol-station robbery and suddenly finds himself thrown in with an incompetent criminal gang amidst the outbreak of a zombie infection, and must draw on every ounce of courage to protect his new crush Tobio (Kwancharu Shitichai) as she flees with him across the apocalypse.
The debut feature of music-video director Tetsuro Takeuchi, Wild Zero is a freewheeling and endlessly energetic caper with real, true love at its core. Coming out just before the 2000s wave of fast zombie films, it instead uses a classic Romero-esque approach to the undead: they are slow, they are grey, they want to eat guts and they will never stop. Mystifying editing (hope you like dissolves), chaotic sound and a total disregard for the conventions of narrative storytelling- this is noise rock filmmaking.
