Overview

To say that Marietta Fortune (Diane Ladd) does not like her daughter Lula’s boyfriend would be an understatement. Marietta hires a man to attack Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and the resulting struggle landed Sailor behind bars. Reunited with Lula (Laura Dern) on his release, the young lovebirds soon hit the road to get as far away as possible from Lula’s overbearing mother— but Marietta’s not going to let her little girl go that easily. David Lynch’s Wild At Heart is a surreal road movie and love story, swooning, shocking and sometimes hilarious. Bleached hair, leopard print, snakeskin, shining cars and roadhouse bars, not to mention Isabella Rossellini, Harry Dean Stanton, Willem Dafoe, and one of the greatest all-time Crispin Glover oddities.

Why You Should See This Film

Winner of the Cannes Palme d'Or, polarising on release, a dark yet innocent cult classic today. Lynch's first film after Blue Velvet, this quintessentially American road movie has allusions to Elvis Presley (Cage provides several shockingly good covers) and The Wizard of Oz . The romance between star-crossed lovers Sailor and Lula is the heart of this film, the purest Lynch has ever told, and the chemistry between Cage and Dern is absolutely electric as they backflip and grind their way across a big weird sun-soaked USA pursued by a cast of miscreants.
