Overview

The much anticipated followup to the Oscar-nominated original, Wicked: For Good showcases the extraordinary talents of BFFs Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in spectacular fashion. Elphaba (Erivo), now demonised as The Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile within the forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth. Glinda (Grande) has achieved the luxurious lifestyle of her dreams in the Emerald City, serving as a PR rep for The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) to assure Ozians that all is well and preparing to marry Prince Fiyero (Olivier award winner and Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey). The two women are haunted by the severing of their close friendship and attempt a reconciliation, but the fallout will nearly destroy those closest to them- and then a girl from Kansas comes crashing into all their lives.

Why See This Film

Freed from the scene setting and world-building requirements of Wicked, For Good gets into the meat of the intense friendship between its two leads and improves on the staged source material in the process: expanding on Elphaba and Glinda's falling out (plus some entirely new musical numbers) bolsters the somewhat lacking second half of the musical and turns it into a rousing tale in its own right. Erivo is as magnetic as ever, but this sequel also gives Grande room to flex her musical talent alongside a deeper and more complex portrayal of what was previously a more one-note role.
