20th ANNIVERSARY – NEW 4K RESTORATION
Celebrating its 20th anniversary with a rockin’ new restoration, Linda Linda Linda is a beloved cult classic from director Nobuhiro Yamashita (Ghost Cat Anzu, A Gentle Breeze in the Village). When their vocalist quits just before their final school festival, bandmates Kei, Kyoko, and Nozomi (Yuu Kashii, Aki Maeda, Yuu Kashii) recruit Son (Bae Doona, The Host, Broker), a Korean exchange student whose Japanese is limited at best, to learn and perform three songs by The Blue Hearts with them. With only three days till the gig, the band practice day and night wherever they can.
“One of the best Japanese films of the 21st century... so rich, so charismatic and so damn catchy, you’ll be itching to show all your friends”
“Funny, droll, sweetly directed and note-perfect”
“Every shot feels like a gift”
An irresistibly offbeat, funny and tender slice of high school life, Linda Linda Linda has a beautiful simplicity and a summery tranquility about it; a celebration of the empty high school corridors, mundane rituals of the every day, and the ecstatic magic of jamming out with your friends. When the girls aren’t practicing the punk rock earworms of The Blue Hearts, each stunningly composed frame is underscored gently with original music by James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins that imbues every moment with a hint of nostalgia. It’s pretty much impossible to leave this film without a smile on your face, we can’t recommend it enough.
