Overview

Beautiful, haunting and dreamlike, The Night of the Hunter is Charles Laughton’s singular masterpiece that manages to blend film noir, Southern Gothic horror and folk fable all at once. An unforgettable Robert Mitchum stars as Reverend Harry Powell, a traveling preacher-slash-serial killer whose dark motives for marrying an unsuspecting widow (Shelley Winters) are uncovered by her two young children, John and Pearl. Once the children flee, Powell hunts them down through the eerie wetlands of the Deep South.
