Overview

Santa Rosa, California, 1943. Uncle Charlie (Joseph Cotten) arrives in town to visit his devoted sister, and namesake niece, Charlotte "Charlie" Newton (Teresa Wright), who are thrilled by his appearance. Soon after his arrival, two men claiming to work on a national survey appear. They have an obvious interest in Uncle Charlie, who Charlie notices has been acting strangely. When news breaks that Uncle Charlie might be one of the suspected as the "Merry Widow Murderer", Charlie has some serious – and tricky – decisions to make.
