Overview

A swashbuckling aerial odyssey from the great Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away), Porco Rosso follows the skyward adventures of the heroic Porco (Shūichirō Moriyama), an ace pilot transformed into a pig by a mysterious spell. Frustrated by their continual defeats at the hands of Porco, the top pirate gangs of the Mediterranean Sea contract arrogant American ace Donald Curtis (Akio Ōtsuka) to ‘get rid of’ the soaring swine. Things complicate further when Curtis falls for Madame Gina (Tokiko Kato), a singer and owner of the Hotel Adriano who holds a longing affection for Porco. Spectacular dogfights, sunset brooding and mechanical mischief ensue in this Studio Ghibli essential.

Why See This Film

Miyazaki’s love of flying, planes and pirates flourishes in this charming, beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable escapade. What began as a short in-flight film for Japan Airlines based on Miyazaki's manga The Age of the Flying Boat quickly grew into the much-loved feature film we know today. Scored by the legendary Joe Hisaishi, Porco Rosso is a must for Ghibli fans and anyone with their heads in the clouds.

Please note this film will screen in Japanese with English subtitles.
