Eyes Wide Shut

“No dream is ever just a dream”

Nothing says Christmas like a '90s erotic mystery made by Stanley Kubrick and starring formerly married couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, right?! Christmas Eve is approaching but there are a couple of other things distracting wealthy Manhattan couple Bill and Alice Hartford. Following an oddly sensual holiday party thrown by one of Bill's patients, Alice reveals a sexual fantasy that has been playing on her mind, sending Bill into a jealous tailspin. One thing leads to another and, soon enough, he's renting a tuxedo, hooded robe and Venetian mask to attend a very private and very unsettling upperclass orgy. From there, anything and everything goes.

Why See This Film

Warm the cockles of your heart with this disturbing holiday odyssey, Stanley Kubrick's final cinematic outing and endlessly controversial upon its release. Eyes Wide Shut ended up in The Guinness Book of Records as the longest constant movie shoot — continuing for over 15 months, included an unbroken shoot of 46 weeks — alongside rumours of the director tormenting the couple with demanding days and narrative subtext.
