Overview

Inspired by the writing of Philip K. Dick, Minority Report is stylish, prescient tech-noir from Spielberg at the top of his game. Tom Cruise stars as John Anderton, chief of the Department of Pre-Crime— a powerful government operation using surveillance and precognitive humans to stop premeditated murders before they occur. When a seeming glitch points at Anderton himself as a future killer he goes on the run, while uncovering a trail that may solve the disappearance of his son years earlier.

Why You Should See This Film

There's a tendency for "futuristic" films a few decades old to look dated, but Minority Report remains one of the most atmospheric and visually stunning works of science fiction, thanks in part to long-term collaborator DOP Janusz Kaminski (Saving Private Ryan). The instances of predictive tech are eerie signposts to now, but the rest is classic Spielberg with masterful blocking and thrilling set-pieces in service of genuine, heartfelt emotion.
