Overview

Late Night with the Devil proves there's life in the found-footage horror genre yet as Australian writers/directors Colin Cairnes and Cameron Cairnes (100 Bloody Acres) show where evil can truly be found: beamed right into our very own homes. It's Halloween night, 1977, and charming syndicated talk show host Jack Delroy (David Dastmalchian) is a man with a problem. “Night Owls” has been a success for years, but after a personal tragedy ratings are plummeting and the network executives are threatening cancellation. The solution? An all-out gimmick filled special broadcast featuring psychics and paranormally-inclined personalities, but when one of the special guests goes off-script it becomes increasingly clear that Delroy is no longer running the show.

“One of the best horror films of the year...achieves that rare feat of feeling like something we were never supposed to see.

The AV Club

“Absolutely brilliant...I couldn't take my eyes off it.”

Stephen King

“A clever trojan horse for a surprising horror movie that goes full throttle on unhinged demonic mayhem.”

Why You Should See This Film

The barely controlled chaos of live television is nerve wracking enough before things inevitably go demonically awry and Dastmalchian is in perfect form as the smooth-talking host trying to manage meddling producers and erratic interviewees while keeping the sponsors and, most importantly, the viewers happy. The wonderfully realised parallel world in which ratings are the ends that justify any means necessary makes for a compelling "trapped in here with me" setting, ably assisted by Ingrid Torelli's performance as a young guest who might be the only person not putting on an act. Funny, eerie and ultimately unhinged, Late Night with the Devil holds its tension before unleashing a showstopper finale— now that's good television.
