Tennis wunderkind Tashi Duncan (Zendaya, Dune) is on a dizzying trajectory to superstardom, until a shattering knee injury prematurely ends her career as an athlete. Determined to re-define herself, Tashi channels her mastery of tennis into the role of coach to her husband, Art (Mike Faist, West Side Story) and transforms him into a grand slam champion. When Art’s game starts faltering and he experiences an unexpected losing streak, Tashi switches tact and organises a “challenger” event, where Art finds himself facing off against his former best friend, Patrick (Josh O’Connor, La Chimera), who also happens to be Tashi’s former boyfriend.
“It's smart and sexy and engaging... Zendaya's star power is thermonuclear”
“Guadagnino is on truly mischievous form... phenomenally exciting filmmaking”
“Thrilling, intoxicating and extravagantly sexy”
Visionary director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, A Bigger Splash) has assembled a pro squad for this sweaty, sporty love triangle. Regular Guadagnino collaborator, cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom (Suspiria, Call Me By Your Name) dynamically lenses the action on and off the court, composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Bones and All) provide the thumping, clubby techno score, and JW Anderson, creative director of Spanish luxury brand Loewe, serves the film’s stylish costumes (as well as Zendaya’s playful tennis-themed outfits for the film’s red carpet tour). The spicy script is the feature debut of screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes (husband of Past Lives director Celine Song) who is already reuniting with Guadagnino to adapt Queer by William S. Burroughs.
