Overview

It's the distant future on planet Ygam, and its inhabitants – enormous blue humanoids named Draags – have brought "Oms" (humans) from planet Earth to examine. Some live in the wild on the bizarre planet, while others are kept as pets. One such 'pet' is Terr, a young orphan boy kept by Draag leader Master Sinh and his daughter Tiva. As Terr grows, so does Tiva who educates him on all forms of Draag life including a special kind of astral meditation and how to use headphones that transmit information to your mind. All information that might be of use when Terr escapes into the feral landscape.

Why See This Film

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at Cannes 1973, this incredibly trippy sci-fi film is an excellent example of 70s cutout stop motion animation. Its surreal, psychedelic imagery has influenced many artists (it even makes an appearance in the film The Cell!). Directed by master of French animation, René Laloux, Fantastic Planet was distributed in the US by Roger Corman and, we love this, voiced by a bunch of top voice-over artists from Hanna Barbera cartoons! This one's for the Jodorowsky fans out there.
