Overview
A group of strangers, all descendants of the late Adèle Meunier, have been summoned to her abandoned Normandy farmhouse to discuss the execution of her estate, where they discover a hoard of old photos and letters detailing her life. In 1895 young Adèle (Suzanne Lindon) travels to Paris, encountering artists from the blossoming Belle Époque scene and pursuing romantic affairs as she opens her mind to life and art. In the present day young photographer Seb (Abraham Wapler) puts together the pieces of Adèle’s bohemian adventures and must decide whether to follow in her footsteps.

All the hats and taffeta aside, Cédric Klapisch takes care showing fin de siècle Montmartre as a place of rapid change and radical thinking, inside a beautifully rendered vision of a pre-electric City of Lights.
