“Not an experiment- an act of terror”
Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan) is back in nightmare mode with the furious horror-thriller Colony. A medical conference is disrupted when disgraced former biotech employee Suh Young-cheol (Koo Kyo-hwan) releases his new project: a virus that transforms victims into ravening ghouls who share a deranged hive-mind. Professor Se-jeong (Jun Ji-hyun, Assassination) leads a band of the uninfected in a desperate attempt to escape the barricaded facility, even as the creatures begin to evolve into strange new forms.
“Yeon has added another exciting new wrinkle to zombie lore”
“Fun, wild, and has everything it takes to become another hit for Korean genre cinema”
Official Selection - Midnights
Yeon has returned to the claustrophobia that made his breakout film so tense, swapping out a passenger train for a gleaming high-rise and updating his zombies to reflect a little COVID trauma, while exploring intriguing concepts around modern surveillance and misinformation. Goopy, frenetic and out of control, Colony is one for lovers of body horror and practical effects, achieving skin-crawling images with the help of some acrobatic performers and a (large) splash of gore.
