Overview

Fast, funny and effervescent, Charade is a screwball comedy classic from Stanley Donen (Singin' in the Rain) featuring three of the hottest Hollywood stars from 1963: Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant and certified hunk Walter Matthau. Returning home to Paris from holidaying in the French Alps, American expat interpreter Reggie (Hepburn) finds her no-good-soon-to-be-ex husband has been murdered, leaving behind a mysterious trail of false identities. CIA administrator Hamilton Bartholomew (Matthau) informs Reggie that, unbeknownst to her, she is in possession of gold stolen during WW2 and in grave danger from men who want it back. The convenient offer of assistance from charming Peter Joshua (Cary Grant) raises her suspicions- but there's no time to think about that on this chaotic double-crossing chase through the Avenues et Metros of the city of love.

Why You Should See This Film

Charade has so much to offer even for those not beguiled by Mr Matthau's charms: cinematography by Charles Lang (The Big Heat); an ear-wormy score by the legend Henry Mancini; and Audrey Hepburn personally styled in immaculate Givenchy from flirty aprés-ski to chic mourning. Taut suspense, zingy chats and chemistry so good you'll forget the age gap, Charade is a palate-cleanser of a romp (yes romp) as refreshing as fine champagne.
