Overview

The culmination of a longstanding alleged rivalry between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane features the two titans in a late-career psychological horror that started a new genre. Baby Jane (Bette Davis), former child star, and her older sister/caretaker Blanche (Crawford) live together after a car accident cuts short Blanche's glamorous Hollywood career, until the siblings' resentment and jealousy threatens to boil over into violence.

Why You Should See This Film

The surprising success of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (both financially and with numerous Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Davis) is notorious for kicking off the Psycho-Biddy genre, in which an older woman terrorises those around her- a trope that has clearly carried through to contemporary horror. Alongside its reputation as a "camp" classic, this is an incredibly entertaining depiction of friction between women in high Gothic style.

BFFs

This film plays as part of our BFFs film series of best friends, frenemies, toxic bromances and so much more. Enjoy the second-hand emotions of watching people who love and love to hate each other, in allegedly platonic ways.
