Overview

Tim Burton’s Ed Wood is a hilarious and heartwarming tribute to the “The Worst Director of All Time”: infamous cult screenwriter, director, producer, actor, and editor (sometimes all at once), Edward D Wood Jr. (Johnny Depp). This somewhat faithful chronicle follows the early career of Wood where he and his band of misfit creatives try to make it big in Hollywood on such productions as Glen or Glenda, Bride of the Monster and Plan 9 From Outer Space. Along the way, Wood strikes up a friendship with Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau), the former Dracula actor struggling in his final years.

“That’s a film I could never do. It’s so profound and so powerful; it’s absolutely amazing”

Guillermo Del Toro

“Simply marvelous, it’s one of the great movies about moviemaking”

Gene Siskel

Why You Should See This Film

A cult favourite film about a cult favourite director, Ed Wood is a madcap yet sincere celebration of the man himself as well as the highs and lows of low-budget filmmaking. Wood was one to unite all kinds of talents and characters to his films, and Tim Burton does the same here. Scored by Howard Shore (The Lord of The Rings), lensed in beautiful black-and-white by Stefan Czapsky (The Thin Blue Line), and elevated by Martin Landau’s take on Bela Lugosi (the film also scored Best Makeup by Rick Baker) – it’s no surprise Ed Wood is widely regarded as one of Burton’s best.
