Overview

Funny, relatable and a little heartbreaking, Clockwatchers is a bittersweet comedy about menial drudgery and the tenuous camaraderie between worker drones. Iris (Toni Collette) drifts into a temporary office job at Global Credit and, snubbed by the full-time staff, finds herself with a motley new friendship group of fellow temps: aspiring actress Paula (Lisa Kudrow), wedding-fixated Jane (Alanna Ubach) and Margaret (Parker Posey), who's desperate to escape the indignities of temp-dom. When a series of mysterious thefts sets the office on edge the women's tentative alliance is threatened, forcing them to choose between job security and their loyalty to each other.

Why You Should See This Film

Between the tentpole US-centric workplace grind comedies of Clerks and Office Space lies this underrated gem, a dark and slyly comic exploration of friendship and ethics that pokes at some raw, uncomfortable truths. While the world of water coolers and paperwork bears little superficial resemblance to 2025 corporate culture some things are unchanging— namely a strict hierarchy designed to keep those on the bottom rung in their place. Clockwatchers has an incredible ensemble roster of 90s talent but its heart belongs to Parker Posey, in a career-defining performance as a woman on the edge that effortlessly swings between biting humour and deep pathos.
