Overview

In the gorgeous follow-up to Before Sunrise (1995), Céline (Julie Delpy) tracks down Jesse (Ethan Hawke) in Paris. Now a successful author about to wrap up his book tour, he has just a few hours left before he has to jet back to America. Almost a decade after their brief encounter in Vienna, the duo stroll around the city of love over long and winding conversations about their careers, relationships, and the disappointments of adult life. A timeless study of the transience of human connections, Before Sunset builds on director Richard Linklater’s fascination with the passing of time, and the way love can transcend it.

Why You Should See This Film

Unfolding in real time over 80 minutes, Before Sunset was shot exclusively in the late afternoon over a mere 15 days for maximum verisimilitude. This dedication pays off, with the film radiating with the real sense of an exquisite romantic afternoon spent ambling through the streets of Paris. Simply one of the greatest romances put to film.
