Wim Wenders

One of the pioneers of German New Wave Cinema alongside Fassbinder and Herzog, Wim Wenders (b.1945) has had a long, eclectic career, best known for his philosophical road movies and intimate artist documentaries (The Buena Vista Social Club, Pina). To celebrate the 4k restoration of Wings of Desire (1987) which won Wenders Best Director at Cannes, we revisit two of his earlier features — the rarely screened Alice in the Cities (1974) and the film it beautifully foreshadowed, Palme d'Or winner Paris Texas (1984).
