Overview

Halla (Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir) is a modest fifty-year-old woman working as a choir leader in Iceland. But behind the scenes of her quiet routine, she leads a double life as a ruthless environmental activist. Known to others only by her alias “The Woman of the Mountain,” Halla secretly wages a solitary war on the local aluminium industry. But right as she begins planning her boldest operation yet, she receives an unexpected letter that changes everything — her application to adopt a child has finally been accepted. As Halla prepares to abandon her activist mantle and fulfil her dream of becoming a mother, she decides to plot one final attack to deal her enemies a crippling blow.

"Offbeat, poignant and visually exquisite"
— The Hollywood Reporter
"A wry, idiosyncratic comedy"
— The Globe and Mail

Why You Should See This Film

The Cannes award-winning follow-up to director Benedikt Erlingsson’s wildly popular festival hit Of Horses and Men, Woman at War is a warm-hearted, hilariously eccentric (and surprisingly musical) environmentalist fable. Between acclaimed cinematographer Bergsteinn Björgúlfsson’s stunning camera work and a barnstorming chorus of folk instrumentalists who regularly break the fourth wall, this cheerful sophomore success is a truly unique sight to behold.
