Overview

A remarkably elegant concoction of romantic drama and wild thriller, Who You Think I Am is a gripping portrait of identity and desire based on the novel by Camille Laurens. University lecturer and divorcee Claire (Juliette Binoche) has started dating the handsome Ludo (Guillaume Gouix) but is under no illusions as to his fidelity. After impulsively creating a fake Facebook profile in order to keep an eye on him – that of 24-year-old blonde ‘Clara’ – she finds herself initiating an unexpected flirtation with Ludo’s close friend Alex (François Civil). But as their online dalliance deepens, the duo is led to increasingly dangerous realms of deception.

"Darkly amusing. A fine vehicle for Juliette Binoche who rises to the occasion with a strikingly in-depth performance"
— David Stratton, The Australian
“A delicious, rug-pulling affair that comes across as one thing, and gradually reveals itself to be quite another. Binoche is on impressive quicksilver form”
— The Hollywood Reporter
“Clever and ambitious ... A 'Dangerous Liaisons' for the digital age"
— Sandra Hall, The Sydney Morning Herald

Why You Should See This Film

A compulsively watchable spin on Hitchcockian themes, Who You Think I Am garnered rave reviews for Juliette Binoche’s lived-in performance upon its gala premiere at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival. With generous dashes of gallows humour and incisive commentary on gender politics, this cracking thriller adds a fascinating new shade to the ‘catfish’ narrative and sees Binoche acting in typically absorbing top-form.
