Overview
You've never seen anything like it. The Love Witch follows charismatic Wiccan woman Elaine (Samantha Robinson) who’s on the prowl for the man of her dreams. After moving to an apartment in California, she sets to work creating talismans, casting spells and using "sex magic" to attract a lover. Her powers are so potent, however, that romance soon turns to murder and Elaine leaves a string of handsome victims in her feminine (and feminist) wake. Victorian tea rooms, majick shops, woodsy cabins, burlesque bars, sacred ceremonies — they're all rendered here in lush Technicolor hues and devilishly stylish production design.
Why You Should See This Film
Again. You've never seen anything like it. Filmmaking polymath Anna Biller directed, wrote, designed, produced and edited The Love Witch, while also designing the phantasmagorical costumes. Set somewhere in the hazy days of the late '60s or early '70s, you wouldn't pick that this film was actually made in 2016. Shot entirely on 35mm using traditional film techniques and processing, it is simply begging to be seen on the big screen.
