Overview
Milena travels to the remote opal-mining community of Lightning Ridge to visit her estranged father Max. Caught somewhere between his antagonistic mates and the unforgiving landscape, Milena is slowly drawn into Max's beguiling world as they try to mend their fractured bond. While she grapples with her bewildering surroundings, and becomes entwined with young miner Frank, she is forced to come to terms with her own loneliness in a town of lost souls.
Why You Should See This Film
Exclusive to Golden Age in Sydney, this film is a richly photographed and strangely seductive narrative feature debut from Russian-Australian director Alena Lodkina. Premiering at the 74th Venice International Film Festival and met with sold-out acclaim at Sydney Film Festival earlier this year, Strange Colours is a singularly Australian cinema experience that will likely haunt you beyond its final frame.
