Overview

Chronicling the bold and uncompromising life and work of Mexican surrealist Frida Kahlo, Frida is a colourful celebration of a great artist. Despite struggling for recognition duing her lifetime, Kahlo is now one of the most iconic figures in all of modern art. From illicit affairs and artistic triumphs to deep tragedies and revolutionary rumblings, Frida brings to life her unmatched, insatiable lust for life.

Why You Should See This Film

Salma Hayek’s only role to receive an Oscar nomination, Frida was a project of great personal significance to the actress, who fought tooth and nail to make it happen. She negotiated with the Mexican goverment to shoot in never-before-accessed locations like Kahlo’s own home and Diego Rivera’s murals, as well as obtaining the permits to use Kahlo’s paintings throughout. Her stunning performance as Frida is a testament to her immense perseverance and dedication.
