Overview
Aalto explores the extraordinary life and creative output of pioneering Finnish architect Alvar Aalto (1898 – 1976). Together with his wife, architect Aino Aalto (1894 – 1949), Aalto sought to humanise architecture, with their designs notable for a focus on natural materials, ingenious use of lighting and an intuitive relationship with their surroundings. Considered to be central figures in the history of modern design, the Aaltos rose to international renown after projects such as the Vyborg Library in Russia and the Paimio Sanatorium in Finland, as well as for the enormously influential modern furniture company, Artek.
