Repossession: A Musical Tribute Performed by Andy Votel + The Devil
(Rated R18)

Session Times
Overview
Golden Age in partnership with The Roundtable present Repossession. Repossession celebrates the work of Polish director Andrzej Żuławski and composer Andrzej Korzyński. Acclaimed British DJ Andy Votel (Finders Keepers Records) will perform a special one-hour tribute honouring the cinematography and soundtracks behind such iconic films as Possession (1981) and On the Silver Globe (1988). Votel will explore their creative output through a unique audio-visual collage comprised of Żuławski’s incredible imagery set to recontextualised Korzyński music – as well as other Polish music of the 1970s – exclusively using rare Polish vinyl records.
After the performance, and a short interval, there will be a special screening of the new 4K restoration of Żuławski’s controversial masterwork The Devil (1972).
The Devil
The Devil was the second film by the Polish director Andrzej Żuławski, after his debut The Third Part of the Night in 1971. Banned by the Polish government upon its release, it is set during the Prussian invasion of Poland in the 1790s. Jakub (Leszek Teleszyński) is imprisoned on charges of conspiracy and treason but is freed by a black-clad stranger (Wojciech Pszoniak), who take flight across a bleak, war-torn winter landscape with a hostage nun (Malgorzata Braunek). They encounter madmen, theatre troupes, and nymphomaniacs, all while bearing witness to a multitude of horrors in this parable of the battle between good and evil. A powerful vision of a world torn asunder, The Devil is an immersive voyage into madness, complemented by an unforgettable psych-rock soundtrack.
