Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood
Prepare for a retro tour-de-force of the highest order. It’s Los Angeles in 1969 and Tinseltown ain’t what it used to be. Living next door to screen starlet Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) is has-been TV hero Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), boozing away what’s left of his career with his Vietnam vet stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). A pair of genuine Hollywood losers, the duo set out on a kaleidoscopic (and explosively violent) odyssey through the backlots and soundstages of the City of Angels, rubbing shoulders with everyone from Steve McQueen to Bruce Lee – and, of course, the encroaching Manson Family.
Why You Should See This Film
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sees Tarantino riffing on all of his favourite obsessions – vendettas, Spaghetti Westerns, donuts and foot fetishism – while also paying the utmost respect to recreating a time period for which he clearly feels so much genuine love. Painstakingly recapturing California in the late ‘60s with the help of cinematographer Robert Richardson, costume designer Arianne Phillips, and editor Fred Raskin, this deliriously fun flick also combines the gargantuan acting talents of Ethan Hawke, Dakota Fanning, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth, Rumer Willis, James Marsden, Lena Dunham, Kurt Russell and Australian actor Damon Herriman as Charles Manson.
