Overview

Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas are as luminous as ever in this playful film industry satire, which premiered in competition at Venice Film Festival. When a billionaire entrepreneur decides to create an iconic movie, he demands the best. Renowned filmmaker Lola Cuevas (Penélope Cruz) is recruited to mastermind this ambitious endeavour. Completing the team are two actors with massive talent but even bigger egos: Hollywood heartthrob Félix Rivero (Antonio Banderas) and radical theatre actor Iván Torres (Oscar Martínez). Both are legends, but not exactly best friends. Through a series of increasingly eccentric trials set by Lola, Félix and Iván must confront not only each other, but also their own legacies. Who will be left when the cameras finally start rolling?

— Time Out
“Cruz slips Official Competition into her slim-suited pockets and walks away with the film”
— Rolling Stone
“Every line delivery is immaculate, and Cruz proves that she is a comic behemoth who has too long been laid dormant”
— Little White Lies

Why You Should See This Film

Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas are two of the most interesting and endlessly watchable actors in the game, period. It’s a joy to see them face off in this showbiz satire, which tackles themes of ego, art-making and privilege with humour and panache. Cruz especially steals the show as the fiery filmmaker Lola — a comedic role that sees her operate in a different register to her usual dramatic domain.
