Muddy waters is part of the 2023 Cement Fondu BETTER NATURE Art + Events program. From the banks of the Nile to the floodplains of Ipswich, bodies emerge from muddy waters to create, protect, release, and react. Featuring fiction feature film The Dam by Ali Cherri (LBN) and new dance video series commission, Flood by GroveMindz (AUS), Muddy waters explores the transfiguration of humans and ideas from earth, dirt, mud and water, animated into bodies, entangling us in environments, beings, and mysteries. Following the screening, akka (AUS) will perform an experimental hybrid DJ set, water memory, exploring a spiritual and embodied relationship with water, moving through ephemeral and immersive soundscapes.
Presented for BETTER NATURE by Cement Fondu
In response to our time of ecological crisis, BETTER NATURE is an annual program of art and events that embraces the complex entanglement between human and non-human worlds. Each year, BETTER NATURE will explore different ecological ideas from a more-than-human perspective, challenging our prevailing human-centric paradigm to create moments of collective clarity and hope. In 2023, BETTER NATURE turns its attention to the world beneath our feet through the theme Earthen.
