Overview

A rare chance to see two documentaries, The Tightrope Dancer (1990) and Painted Lady (2002) by filmmaker Ruth Cullen about the artist and adventurer Vali Myers; the legendary flame-haired dancing Bohemian of post-war Paris; the Free Spirit of Tennessee Williams’ Orpheus Descending and the creator of magical paintings. Shot on location in her wild remote valley in Salerno, and Naples where she dances with Vesuvian gypsies, Vali resumes her annual sojurn at New York’s Chelsea Hotel where she continues to take the city by storm. Later she returns to Melbourne Australia where her studio becomes a magnet. Featuring appearances by actor Peter Weller, musicians Deborah Harry (Blondie) and Chris Stein, poets Ira Cohen Lee Fuhler, and George Plimpton.

Presented by Miso

Stanislava Pinchuk (Miso) is a Ukrainian artist working with data mapping the changing topographies of war & conflict zones. Her works record the new landscapes created by political events, and span installation, drawing, sculpture & tattooing. For a number of years, she was the lucky custodian of Vali Myers’ studio in the Nicholas Building, and took care of it with a lot of love.
