Overview

A few years after The Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland once again dazzled audiences in Vincente Minnelli’s Meet Me in St. Louis, which launched the golden era of MGM musicals. On the brink of the World Fair in 1904, life seems all but perfect for the Smith family and their four daughters, who live a comfortable, happy life in St. Louis. That all changes when their father Alonzo announces his new job in New York, leaving the family devastated at the thought of leaving their treasured home.

Why You Should See This Film

With the magical combination of Vincente Minnelli and Judy Garland, how can you go wrong? The two famously fell in love on set and married soon after, with their child Liza Minnelli growing up to rival her parents in the star stakes. Regarded as one of the best musicals of all time, Meet Me in St. Louis is also a gorgeous Christmas classic — Garland’s original rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is a show-stopper.
