A pre-Oprah Lindsay Lohan plays Cady ('pronounced like Katie'), a home-schooled 16 year old girl who moves to Illinois after 12 years in Africa with her zoologist parents and she’s soon warned by Janis and Damian (her new outsider pals at highschool) to avoid the drama of the popular girls known as the Plastics. Regina, Gretchen and Karen make up the clique who rule the school and despite being super mean and not at all fetch, Cady can’t resist their 'girl world' charms and allows her look and personality to be made over – 'on Wednesdays we wear pink!' Drama ensues (of course!) when the Plastics’ ‘burn book’ full of student and teacher gossip is leaked and there’s some teen girl hell to pay. File this alongside Heathers and Clueless.
Why You Should See This Film
Because can you believe it’s been fourteen whole years since this was released? Sheesh. Based on the non-fiction book 'Queen Bees and Wannabes', the screenplay was written by Tina Fey (holla!) who also co-stars along with an incredible cast featuring Amy Poehler, Rachel McAdams, Lizzy Caplan, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried and Daniel 'you go Glen Coco' Franzese. Also... Lindsay. Oh. Lindsay.
