Overview

Poolside parties, seductive glamour, corrupt debauchery and illicit drugs galore. It's just another day in the seat of power and the lap of luxury. Directed and co-written by Oscar-winner Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty, Youth), Loro details the scandal-plagued life and times of Silvio Berlusconi (Toni Servillo), the former Prime Minister of Italy. Visually dazzling and truly timely, Sorrentino peeks behind the infamy to reveal the complex motivations of the notorious billionaire as he grapples with a fractured second marriage, political adversaries and a coterie of shady supporting characters eager to either lift him up or bring him down.

"Sorrentino embraces the corruption, the vulgarity and the extravagance with a certain tenderness, rather than envy."
— The Sydney Morning Herald
"A richly inventive, ferocious feast of satire and vulgarity."
— The Hollywood Reporter

Why You Should See This Film

Early on in the production of Loro, Sorrentino's usual Italian financier Medusa Film — which is controlled by Berlusconi — refused to participate in the proceedings. So ... that’s always a good sign. Accordingly the film is bold, unashamedly excessive and already courting controversy for its no-holds-barred portrait of the amoral excesses of the ruling class.
