Overview

Golden Age is thrilled to present a stunning restoration of this countercultural epic of late-‘60s Euro-Americana. Filmed in 1970 between Blow-up and The Passenger, Michelangelo Antonioni's gorgeous creation centres upon two young bohemians (Mark Frechette and Daria Halprin) searching for their own scene. Mark is heavily involved in on-campus protests, which are becoming increasingly violent, while Daria is traveling solo in her hefty Buick through the Mojave Desert to catch up with someone from her past. Their paths meet by chance and together they head to the wilds of Zabriskie Point, and beyond.

Why You Should See This Film

This film is almost too much. The cast features members of the Black Panthers, Parramatta High School's Rod Taylor and members of experimental theatre group The Open Theatre, who memorably simulate a dusty orgy. Though it was somewhat misunderstood at the time of its release, Zabriskie Point has gone on to become a cult classic, in large part due to its extraordinary cinematography, staggering denouement and incredible soundtrack — notably featuring both Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead.

Every Wednesday night in February, we're bringing you a radiant program of hot cult favourites across the themes of School’s Out (Reality Bites, The Graduate), Star-Crossed Lovers (Romeo + Juliet, True Romance), Street Heat (Rear Window, Do the Right Thing) and Wild West (Zabriskie Point, Boogie Nights).

And of course, every week gets an ice cold summery Four Pillars cocktail to match. For Zabriskie Point and Boogie Nights this week, we’ll be serving Four Pillars Navy Strength Gin in a Spicy Ginger Mule.
