Overview

Hailed as one of the finest and most riveting documentaries released in recent memory, Free Solo follows dedicated daredevil Alex Honnold as he attempts to become the first person to ever "free solo" climb Yosemite's 3,000ft high El Capitan Wall. As Honnold prepares to scale the vertiginous cliff without ropes or harnesses — his loved ones looking on in fear and admiration — this expansive film transcends the climbing world to consider the beauty of unwavering obsession, personal sacrifice and physical transcendence. Overflowing with jaw-dropping imagery and largely filmed by a group of fellow climbers using gravity-defying cameras, Free Solo will simply take your breath away.

Winner: Best Documentary Feature, Academy Awards 2019
"Visually staggering. I spent most of this film with my jaw on the floor."
— The Guardian
"A sweaty-palmed account of one man's mission to do the impossible."
— The Telegraph UK
