Overview

It’s the mid-1960s and the car racing scene is proudly dominated by Enzo Ferrari, whose fleet of crimson automobiles effortlessly win international prize after prize. But when embattled motoring CEO Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) orders his technicians to construct a vehicle that will beat Ferrari once and for all, they’ll have to turn to eccentric mavericks Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and Ken Miles (Christian Bale) to get the job done. From director James Mangold (Walk the Line, Legion), the true story Ford v Ferrari follows the two men as they burn through money, rubber and personal demons in the pursuit of racing perfection. But will their automotive ambitions be able to withstand corporate interference, the limits of physics and the ticking clock in the lead-up to an era-defining race at Le Mans?

"A barnburner of a motion picture that mainlines heart-in-mouth excitement and tug-at-the-heart emotion"
— Los Angeles Times
"Slick, thrilling and saturated with vivid hues and 60s can-do optimism ... a precision-tooled machine of a movie"
— The Observer
"Powered by zesty acting and Mangold’s meticulous direction ... the battle is sketched with such élan, all high-gloss surfaces, scotch-swilling intrigue and rat-a-tat dialogue, that it’s impossible not to be drawn in"
— Empire

Why You Should See This Film

A thrilling two-hander from Bale and Damon, the film charts their tempestuous friendship – full of smarmy one-liners and spontaneous brawls – while also revealing the cost of their unwavering determination. Punctuated by breathtaking racing sequences and a scene-stealing turn from Tracy Letts, it manages to combine all the fist-pumping delight of a classic sporting flick with the very latest in film technology. In other words – these vintage speedsters have never looked more nostalgically beautiful, nor have we ever felt closer to being in the driver's seat.
