Winter is Dark: A Gin & Film Festival

Session Times

A pitch-black dramedy set on the glaring white slopes of the French Alps, Force Majeure takes the role of the male in modern family life and throws it tumbling down the side of a mountain. Tomas (Johannes Kuhnke) is on a ski holiday with his wife and two children when an impulsive decision in a moment of crisis leaves the family dynamic shaken to the core in its aftermath. Will their nuclear four-some ever recover? It doesn't seem likely.

Why You Should See This Film

A word-of-mouth sensation at film festivals from Cannes to Fantastic Fest, Force Majeure was the official Swedish submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards and was quickly followed by provocative director Ruben Östlund's Cannes-winning The Square. The film also stars Kristofer Hivju, who Game of Thrones fans will recognise as the ginger-bearded wildling Tormund Giantsbane.

Winter is Dark: A Gin & Film Festival

To celebrate the darker side of the seasons, join our friends at Four Pillars Gin for Winter is Dark: A Gin & Film Festival. Throughout the month of August, we're bringing you a program of dark cult films covering the genres of comedy (Harold & Maude, Fargo), romance (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Only Lovers Left Alive), drama (McCabe & Mrs Miller, Force Majeure) and horror (The Exorcist, The Thing). And of course, every week gets a Bloody Shiraz Gin cocktail to match.
