Comedians Talk Over: Rocky IV with Finding Drago
Sylvester Stallone vs Dolph Lundgren. Rocky Balboa vs Ivan Drago. USA vs USSR. The film that ended the Cold War. Rocky IV is one of the defining pieces of American pop culture (propaganda) from the 1980s. With a lean and mean runtime of 90 minutes Rocky IV packs in at least 23 minutes of montages, footage from previous Rocky films, a full musical performance from James Brown, a Lamborghini Countach and a robot butler that Rocky’s brother-in-law falls in love with. Directed by Sylvester Stallone at the height of his filmmaking powers, Rocky IV is his love letter to Soviet Montage films of Sergei Eisenstein and Dziga Vertov and performance-enhancing steroids.
COMEDIANS TALK OVER MOVIES: FINDING DRAGO EDITION
Once a month, join Australia’s best comedians as they sit in the front row with microphones and wine making a mockery of the most outlandish cinematic achievements. With special guests, Cameron James & Alexei Toliopoulos from the hit ABC podcast Finding Drago.
“Finding Drago is Serial for Rocky fans” says Birth.Movies.Death. It’s an investigative podcast, hosted by comedians and film geeks Alexei Toliopoulos and Cameron James. The pair attempt to track down Todd Noy, the author of "Drago: On Mountains We Stand", an unauthorized literary spin-off from Sylvester Stallone's Rocky IV that chronicles the life of the USSR's greatest fictional athlete Ivan Drago. The AV Club says Finding Drago is “mesmerizing in its exploration of the curious tome, full of great humor and abjectly terrible reporting”.
