Overview
Body horror master David Cronenberg returns with his first film in eight years, the seductively strange Crimes of the Future, starring Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart and Léa Seydoux. As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed… Their mission – to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.
Why You Should See This Film
The Cannes-selected Crimes of the Future is a triumphant return to form for Cronenberg, with critics calling it one of his best films in years. Featuring deliciously out-there performances from all three leads, and peppered with a litany of references to Cronenberg’s previous body of work, it’s both an exciting entry point to Cronenberg newcomers, as well as a satisfying treat for long-standing fans.
