Overview
Ever been stuck on a train with someone you’d rather get away from? Winner of the prestigious Grand Prix at Cannes 2021, Compartment No. 6 sees two strangers navigate their differences over a long, unforgiving train ride through wintery Russia. Finnish archaeology student Laura has planned a trip to Murmansk to look at ancient petroglyphs with her lover Irina. When Irina pulls out of their plans, Laura is left to take the trip on her own. Boarding the train, she’s met with the immediately unwelcoming presence of the loud, vodka-swilling Lyokha (Yuri Borisov). As the journey drags on, the two polar opposites can’t help but find their common ground.
Why You Should See This Film
From its opening credits, scored to Roxy Music’s infectious “Love Is the Drug”, we knew this film was for us. Reminiscent of unexpected connection movies like Before Sunrise, Brief Encounter or Lost in Translation, there is a certain naturalistic magic to Compartment No. 6 that is undeniably charming. Hop on board, you won’t regret it.
