Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda

(Rated PG)

"I hope you enjoy the music."

Session Times

One of the most important artistic minds of our era, Ryuichi Sakamoto has had a prolific career spanning over four decades, from techno-pop star, to actor, to Oscar-winning film composer. Returning to music after a battle with cancer, Sakamoto threw himself headlong into the creation of two new masterworks — his critically acclaimed album async and the breathtaking score for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant. From his brilliant career rebirth to his anti-nuclear campaigning, Coda provides a rare window into the mind of a tireless creative powerhouse.

★★★★★ "One of the great documentaries about the creative process."
— The Telegraph UK
"A gentle, reflective portrait."
— The Hollywood Reporter

Why You Should See This Film

Granted unprecedented access to its subject, Stephen Nomura Schible's intimate and illuminating film is a gentle meditative examination of Sakamoto’s life, his creative process and his quest for “a perpetual sound.” Unique among music documentaries, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda is a graceful, moving portrait of both the artist and the man.
