A refreshingly unique subversion on the classic high-school raunchy comedy, Bottoms focuses on two girls, PJ (Rachel Sennott, Shiva Baby, The Idol) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri, The Bear), who start a fight club as a way to lose their virginities to cheerleaders. Their bizarre plan works; the fight club gains traction and soon the most popular girls in school are beating each other up in the name of self-defense. But PJ and Josie find themselves in over their heads and in need of a way out before their plan is exposed.
“The horniest, bloodiest high school movie of the 21st century”
"Cynical, cool and hysterically weird"
"Incredibly silly. Hilariously rewarding"
"Brazenly gonzo, scaldingly and at times even dementedly over-the-top, and actually about something"
We're delighted to see Shiva Baby writer-director Emma Seligman reunited with Rachel Sennott (who also co-wrote this), joined by recent favourite Ayo Edebiri, all dialling the silliness and bloodiness to eleven. Striking firmly in the vein of Heathers (1988) and But I’m a Cheerleader (1999), Bottoms is a wonderfully rare and incredibly quotable treat – certainly one of our favourite comedies of the year.
